Mobile Classroom: A Training Center on Site
As the training market gets more and more competitive, ATR launches Mobile Classroom. As a genuine travelling Training Center system, Mobile Classroom provides customers with the very best training, actually on their premises. Making the high quality training provided by the Training Centers accessible from anywhere in the world...That was the challenge and Mobile Classroom has made it happen. “Customers have always wanted to be able to train people on their own premises,” explains Luigi Baldini, Head of Maintenance Training. “But until now, that was only possible for a few theory courses. Mobile Classroom has changed all that; it’s a high-performance, totally mobile training system.” This new set-up means training leading to official qualifications (in particular licences B1 and B2) can be delivered directly on the customer’s premises. With a Mobile Classroom and an instructor, trainees can follow all of the theory classes and carry out the practical sessions on a virtual aircraft. There is also the option of on-site practical sessions on an actual aircraft, taught by a second instructor, but in that case, either the customer or one of our maintenance centers (ATR-accredited MRO) has to lend an aircraft for the purposes of the course.
Benefits all Round
The customer obviously saves money – where previously travel, board and lodging had to be supplied for all of the trainees, with Mobile Classroom, only the trainer(s)’ expenses need to be covered. As the Mobile Classroom requires at least eight trainees and at most twelve, the cost of actual training per trainee is also lower than at a Training Center. This package represents a significant advantage for ATR in a climate of growing competition around training. The ATR fleet is growing worldwide and more and more training operators - organisations, freelancers etc. have their sights set on this new market. “We are head and shoulders above the competition in terms of teaching technique and learning results, notably on the ATR-600, thanks to the expertise of our Training Centers,” stresses Luigi Baldini. “The Mobile Classroom allows us to provide that quality, that expertise, on the customer’s premises.”
A solution Met with wide Acclaim
In hands-on terms, the Mobile Classroom is a trunk containing all of the teaching material necessary for a dozen trainees. This highly innovative material is the same in our Training Centers and in the Mobile Classroom kit. There are two set-ups available depending on the premises and the material provided by the customer. The ‘lightweight’ version includes 13 laptops (one spare), headphones and all of the cables. The ‘heavyweight’ version also includes twelve auxiliary screens and an HD video projector with its own screen. This format has already attracted several customers. Bahamasair were the first company to start using Mobile Classroom in March. In May, 12 trainees from Thailand Aviation Industries took up the offer of this travelling infrastructure. In June, the kit was sent to the NATO base in Sicily to train 16 people (in two groups) from the Aeronautica Militare, the Italian airforce. To keep up with demand, ATR has invested in material; four complete Mobile Classroom kits are now available since autumn 2016. A squadron of ‘technical trunks’ ready to conquer new market shares!
